Our online video therapy provides the highest convenience with the same Shift individual and executive coaching protocol. We use HIPAA-compliant video conferencing to connect with clients on their existing computer, tablet, or phone for therapy online.
Shift primarily uses two different programs for video sessions with clients. The first and default app we use is the video platform integrated in Jane. When appointments are booked as video sessions through Jane, the client automatically receives an email invitation with a link to the session. When a Jane video appointment is booked, clients will receive an email to Test their Device. Clients using Android phones or their computers can only use Jane video through the Google Chrome web browser. Clients using their iPhone will be prompted to download the free Jane Video app from the App store. The following guide from Jane provides handy videos and links for FOH members and clients to use:

Our other platform we use is SecureVideo and VSee. For this one, we have to manually schedule sessions through SecureVideo, which then sends a link to the client to connect through the app VSee. VSee can be download on client’s laptops and phones. Clients do not require a VSee account to use it for therapy. For both Jane video and VSee, clients only have to open the program and join the session and their clinician will jump on when they are ready.
For video therapy to proceed, the client must be physically in Alberta. This is in accordance with the College of Alberta Psychologists’ guidelines, as a clinician is only able to provide therapy within the province they are registered in. If a client mentions being out of province for their next video session, you should give their clinician a heads-up so that the clinician can advise you and proceed accordingly based on their professional judgement.
Video therapy is a great option for clients who may have a scheduling issue come up and try to short notice cancel. For example, if a client’s child is sick and they cannot leave their house, offering to switch their appointment to a video session is a great way for them to avoid paying for the cancellation fee.
